Getting Ready For America // Exchange Post #2

On May 16, my student visa for America was approved and so I started looking for plane tickets to America. I mostly used Google Flights to look for flights but at times I looked at Ebookers, Momondo and more. After looking for the cheapest flight options, on May 25th I decided that flying with Icelandair to Chicago was the cheapest and best option for me. The only downside to flying with Icelandair was that there was a 7.5 hour layover. However, as seen from my previous blog post that ended up being a blessing in disguise! I ended up going to the Reykjavik and seeing a part of Iceland!

During mid-June I began making a list of clothing, shoes and items I would need during my time in America. This was a difficult task for me because I knew I would be packing for 6 months, 3 seasons, casual wear, formal wear, items for my dorm and more! I needed to pack enough items but no more than 2 suitcases.

Here are a few items I needed to pack:

- Summer clothes: Shorts, t-shirts, skirts, dresses, blouses, swimsuits

- Fall clothes: Jeans, thin sweaters, light jacket, cardigan

- Winter clothes: Sweaters, winter jacket, gloves, scarves, a hat

- Basics: Pjs, socks, bras, underwear, tights

- Shoes: Black flats, brown sandals, black sneakers

- Items: Toiletries, required documents, backpack

I tried packing essentials and clothing items I could build and mix outfits with such as white shirts, black or navy bottoms, and gray sweaters. This way I could wear these items often but in different combinations! I decided to pack more summer clothes because after looking at the previous year's weather in Murray, KY it seemed that it is quite warm there until October.

On July 18, I flew to Chicago and the next day I took a bus to Cincinnati. From there, my sister drove me to Lexington and I stayed in Lexington until Friday evening. On Friday, I had a short flight to Charlotte where I stayed until Wednesday. I got to see my family and spend time with them. On Wednesday July 26th, I took an evening bus to Atlanta and I am staying here until Monday!

Here is a short video highlighting my next step in my exchange semester adventures!

I can't wait for you to see the next steps in my adventures!

Love,
